Porsche lovers are waiting eagerly to get some news on the upcoming 2012 Porsche Boxster model. As per that, sources of the British Mag have said that the next generation Boxster which is also recognized as the 981 is been visualized completely right from the scratch.
This 981 model will boast a new cab-forward design which will perfectly differentiate it from the 911. As far as the dimensions are concerned, the car will get stretched at the wheelbase by 60 mm that is 2.36 inches and 37 mm that is 1.46 inches in total length. Besides, the height of the car will be reduced by 10 mm (0.39-inches) and the front overhang will get a treatment of lessening by 25 mm (0.98 inches).
With more space, the cabin of the car will offer pretty good legroom with 18 mm (0.70-inches) for the two seaters. The weight of the car is also reduced by 15 kg to 1320 kg which one can enjoy on the standard model, whereas, the Boxster S will be estimated at 1340 kg.
The Boxster will also receive some of the extraordinary styling works on the front as well as rear fascias to flaunt. Headlamps, taillights, a steeper windscreen, and a new side air intake design are the added features, making this model look completely different from the 911. However, the different looks will be a new flat four power plant, a flagship engine which is developing by Porsche. Its 2.5 liter twin turbocharged engine will produce 360 bhp (268 kW / 365 PS) and 347 lb-ft (470 Nm) of torque.
Its 2.9 liter engine gives a power boost from 252 hp to 265 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. And the 3.4 liter engine for the Boxster S will produce 315 bhp and 360 Nm of torque as compared to what it is producing now, 306 hp. As the details presented by the Car magazine, one more thing is been revealed that the new 2.5 liter straight four will be available in different performance stages. This might replace the 2.9 liter unit completely. Enthusiasts stay tuned since the new Boxster is set to make its debut at the Detroit in January 2012.
