Detroit Electric has released the first teaser image with the SP:01 prototype which is wearing a lot of camouflage on its body.
Detroit Electric will soon play along with the “big boys” as the company is getting ready to introduce the SP:01. The model in question will be produced in Europe and it will be based on the Lotus Exige, coming with a similar but modified design, in order to differentiate from the already available sports car. The SP:01 has been already teased, for the first time, in the image posted above, but because of the heavy camouflage, we can’t really tell anything on it.
“The lightweight, two-seat, rear-wheel-drive, open-top sports car promises to thrill the EV market with its blistering performance and exhilarating dynamics. This latest version of the SP:01 has seen additional development work carried out by Detroit Electric’s engineers and designers since a pre-production version of the vehicle was revealed to the media at events in Detroit, USA, and Shanghai, China, last year”, said the car manufacturer in its official press release.
The Detroit Electric SP:01 will come with a mid-mounted electric motor, rated at 201 HP (150 kW) and 225 Nm (166 lb-ft) of torque. This should be enough to allow it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds and to reach an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Production of the car will be limited to 999 units and pricing will be set from 135,000 USD.
