Do the Line-Lock burnout even with the Ford Mustang EcoBoost image

Ford’s fun-enhancing line-lock feature was until now exclusive to the V8-powered Mustang GT, but for the 2018 model year, which has also brought a refresh for the series, it has become available on all versions.

This means both the V6 and EcoBoost-powered Mustangs will come with the line lock, alongside the flagship GT. It has been developed for drag racing, and should be used only on the track – the system will lock the front brakes so that the driver can torture and spin the rear tires for up to 15 seconds. The feature, as the theory says, should help them get the tires to the desired race temperature if they were going to launch on the drag strip. We’re pretty sure it’s going to be used for plain old smokin’ fun mostly, though.

The line-lock feature is actually usable on both Ford’s new 10-speed auto gearbox, or with the purist-enhancing six-speed manual transmission – it can be easily activated by entering the Track Apps menu on models equipped with the 12-inch digital instrument display. An industry-first “video-game-like” animation will start showing, depicting a spinning alloy kicking up a cloud of smoke to let you know it has been activated. “Burnouts just never get old, no matter how old you are and how many times you’ve done them,” said Formula Drift Champ Vaughn Gittin Jr. “Who would have thought that we would see an EcoBoost Mustang producing 15 seconds of fury like this? You’ve got to love these rad things Ford is doing.”
