The Dodge Dart might receive a new body style, in the shape of a hatchback, which could make its way onto the market sometimes next year.
The Italian based automaker Fiat is already selling a version of the Dodge Dart named the Viaggio and this model will get a hatchback version, based on the current sedan, in the nearby future. The model has been confirmed by John Burton, the China Guangzhou-Fiat general manager, who has spoken to Autocar. According to our source, the Fiat Viaggio hatchback will be unveiled by the end of 2013, and the model will go on sale early next year. It remains uncertain yet whether the same body style will be applied onto the Dodge Dart.
As a small reminder, the 2013 Dodge Dart is the company’s attempt to get back into the compact car segment and go against models like the Chevrolet Cruze or the Ford Focus. The model has a starting price of 15,995 USD for the entry-level SE version, while the top of the line R/T will cost 22,495 USD. The cheapest version is getting the 2.0 liter 16-valve Tigershark I-4 engine, which is developing a total output of 160 HP and 148 lb-ft of torque. The unit can be mated to either a six-speed automatic transmission, as an option or a six-speed manual as standard.
