Boutique Dutch sports car manufacturer Donkervoort will be producing just 40 units for the D8 GTO RS, which has already been pre-sold, but is also going to up the ante with just 15 examples of the Naked Edition.
The bare-naked carbon fiber special series is part of the 40 units production – the niche brand has managed to produce and deliver 20 units of the standard D8 GTO RS and now wants to celebrate with the entire world the arrival of the first unit in the limited series. The example – going to a lucky owner in Germany – has a striking Monte Carlo Blue Carbon, obtained in a bespoke process. The carbon fiber body gets a transparent paint developed in collaboration with BASF’s high-end brand R-M on top, allowing us to see how the manufacturer used the ultra-light material for no less than 95 percent of the bodywork. Even the headlight housing, ignition cylinder housing, and the roll-bar trim are made from carbon.
Donkervoort clearly has a weight obsession – akin to Lotus – and sprayed carbon components instead of painting them in the traditional way, and thanks to all the efforts the lightweight sports car tips the scales at 695 kg (1,532 lbs). The beating heart is represented by a 2.5-liter, five-cylinder TFSI engine sourced from Audi and tweaked to reach 380+ horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 500 Newton-meters (369 pound-feet) of torque from 1,750 rpm. RWD, old school five-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential are also part of the menu.
