The new luxury SUV acting as DS Automobiles’ new top of the line offering will grace the Geneva Motor Show next week and flaunt its curvaceous lines as well as cutting edge powertrain.
We’re happy to report that DS decided its DS 7 Crossback needs to come out to light without an extensive teasing campaign – the French SUV combines the latest tech advancements in the group with typical Parisian savoir-faire. The design is clearly personal and might become polarizing once people see it in the metal – but it’s also certainly eye-catching. Up front there’s a huge mesh grille with flanking active LED “Vision” headlights, while at the back the car comes with 3D taillights. The interior packs two 12-inch screens, taking care of navigation, the multimedia interface, MirrorScreen, and DS Connect functions.
Power comes from a wide array of engines but most importantly the DS 7 Crossback premieres a new plug-in hybrid powertrain, complete with 300 horsepower (223 kilowatts) and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The gasoline engine will make 200 horsepower (149 kilowatts), while two electric motors deliver the rest – hooked to a 13 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery with an output of 90 kW tucked beneath the rear bench. It will have three driving modes: full electric, hybrid or mixed. Go 100 percent electric and the DS 7 will have a 37-mile (59-kilometer) range, with charging taking up four and a half hours with a 6.6-kW charger, or two and a half hours with the fast mode.
The rest of the powertrain options include a 225-hp (167-kW) gasoline unit or a 180-hp (134-kW) diesel alternative, linked to either an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual gearbox. The DS 7 Crossback will also premiere the semi-autonomous driving system nicknamed DS Connected Pilot, but also feature perks such as night vision, a DS Park Pilot and an active scan suspension that monitors road (and off-road) conditions. At the premiere the DS 7 Crossback will also be featured as a “La Premiere” special edition – featuring exclusive paint colors like Cumulus Grey, Pearl White and Perla Nera Black, and contrasting Nappa leather upholstery.
