The Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG has received yet another bespoke version courtesy of renowned tuner Brabus, dubbed the Rocket 900 Desert Gold Edition and officially unveiled in front fo the audience attending the Dubai event.
The Rocket 900 is not actually very new – having been presented in March this year – but has now been blinged well enough to have some Arab prince enticed to buy it. We can highlight the pretty obvious: the model has been turned goldish to ensure high appeal in places such as the UAE. The rest of the innards appear to have been left untouched – we already had a wild interpretation of the S65 AMG with a twin-turbo V12 6.3-liter engine that came with a displacement upgrade and delivered an impressive set of 900 ponies next to the smashing 1,500 Nm (1,106 lb-ft) (actually electronically tamed to “just” 1,200 Nm) to make sure the purposely modified 7-speed automatic transmission can take the beating.
While breaking the barrier on pony count, the tuner has allowed the S65 AMG to remain a rear-wheel drive high-performance sedan, with the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint handled in just 3.7 seconds and then reaching 200 km/h in 9.1 seconds on its way to the maximum speed of at least 217 mph (350 km/h). Back to the Dubai Motor Show version, the bespoke “Desert Gold” hue has been mated to the carbon fiber custom add-on body parts. It also employs 21-inch Monoblock F Platinum Edition wheels with their own gold pin striping and using 255/35 ZR21 front and 295/30 ZR 21 rear tires. Gold accents have also been used throughout the cabin and the digital speedometer has received a “hack” that allows it to showcase the 400 km/h mark.
