This Italian thoroughbred is quickly gaining the love of collectors and this eBay find is certainly not among the cheap, snatch it as you go items.
The Alfa Romeo 4C has been successful among the sports car passionate – those that remain – and the incoming Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio, complete with Nurburgring lap record – is making collectors feel good about the revival of the Italian brand. This also means people are looking into the car brand’s glorious past – and today we have one such example. A gorgeous 1971 Alfa Romeo Montreal has appeared on eBay, clad in the original factory red paint and wheels – with a desire to land in a collector’s garage. The Montreal was actually an unnamed concept at Expo 67 in Montreal, Canada, and it quickly earned the nickname as it was designed to go against Maserati, Aston Martin, and others.
The design is attributed to Marcello Gandini at Bertone, and has a styling that is very specific to the early 1970s. The headlamps are hidden inside the hood, behind a pair of louver-like grilles that would retract. There was only one engine – 197-horsepower (147-kilowatt) 2.6-liter V8 that was mated to a five-speed ZF manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. This car is in running and driving condition, with a completely restored interior – with the owner asking $77,000, for one of the only 3,900 units ever produced.
