Elon Musk, the boss of Tesla, may at some point choose between the company and SpaceX.
Plug-In Cars expects Elon Musk to choose SpaceX and predicts he will stay with Tesla for several more years. Now that Tesla launched the Model S and expects sales of 5,000 units by the end of the year, it’s a good thing to have Musk around.
“The only number we talk about is the production target of 5,000 this year. It’s not a demand issue: We have orders for well over 10,000 cars. We’re confident that the 5,000 number will be approximately correct. The production ramp is very narrow as we iron out the supply chain, but it ramps up very quickly,” he said.
Unfortunately, Musk has too many things to handle: he is running both auto maker Tesla and private space exploration company SpaceX, and he is also chairman of SolarCity, a company that does solar panels for homes. Musk made his fortune when eBay bought PayPal for $1.5 billion, but unlike the others who got rich from this deal he chose to create his own companies, and not web-based ones.
