Euro NCAP: 5 Stars for Ford Mondeo, Kia Sorento, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Lexus NX, Porsche Macan, Subaru Outback and VW Passat image

Euro NCAP has crash tested several brand new models and the ones which managed to obtain a 5-star safety rating are the Mondeo, Sorento, Discovery Sport, NX, Macan, Outback and Passat.

After the new generation of the Dacia Logan MCV has obtained just 3 stars, the new Ford Mondeo, Kia Sorento, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Lexus NX, Porsche Macan, Subaru Outback and Volkswagen Passat have been scored with a maximum 5-star safety rating.

The new Ford Mondeo has obtained 86 percent in Adult Occupant, 82 percent in Child Occupant, 66 percent in Pedestrian and 66 Percent in the Safety Assist category. The only “Marginal” marking was in the side pole impact for the chest and the only “Poor” rating was seen in the part of the hood above the headlights and grille and in the lower side parts of the windscreen, for the Pedestrian category. The tested car was a Ford Mondeo 2.0 diesel.

The Kia Sorento has also seen a 5-star safety rating. The model managed to obtain 90 percent in Adult Occupant, 83 percent in Child Occupant, 67 percent in Pedestrian and 71 percent in Safety Assist. During the Adult Occupant crash tests, the model was rated “Good” and “Adequate”, but the same cannot be said for the Pedestrian safety, because the same lower part of the hood and the lower side parts of the windscreen were marked as “Poor”. The tested vehicle was a Kia Sorento 2.2 diesel GLS.

The brand new Land Rover Discovery Sport is one safe ride as it managed to obtain 93 percent in Adult Occupant, 83 percent in Child Occupant, 69 percent in Pedestrian and 82 percent in Safety Assist, with the only ratings being “Good” and “Adequate”, except for the same lower part of the hood in the Pedestrian category, which has been marked as “Poor”. The tested model was a Land Rover Discovery Sport 2.2 diesel SE.

Lexus has obtained a 5-star safety rating too with its NX crossover, with 82 percent in Adult Occupant, 82 percent in Child Occupant, 69 percent in Pedestrian and 71 percent in Safety Assist. The only “Marginal” rating was in the side pole impact, as the rest of the ratings were “Adequate” and “Good”. In the Pedestrian safety, the model was been rated “Poor” for the lower part of the hood and lower side parts of the windscreen. The model tested was a Lexus NX 300h Executive.

The Porsche Macan is one safe ride as it managed to obtain 5 stars too, with 88 percent in Adult Occupant, 87 percent in Child Occupant, 60 percent in Pedestrian Safety and 66 percent in Safety Assist. The vehicle has been marked as “Adequate” and “Good” in the front offset, side car and side pole impacts and in the Pedestrian category, the same lower part of the hood has been marked as “Poor”, along with the lower and side parts of the windscreen. The tested model was a Porsche Macan 2.0 TFSI.

Subaru’s Outback has obtained 85 percent in Adult Occupant, 87 percent in Child Occupant, 70 percent in Pedestrian Safety and 73 percent in Safety Assist and during the crash tests, the dummies have been rated “Adequate” and “Good”. The lower side parts of the windscreen and lower part of the hood have turned out to be a problem here too, in the Pedestrian safety, as they have been marked as “Poor”. The tested model was a Subaru Outback 2.0 diesel EyeSight.

Last but not least, the Volkswagen Passat, in its new generation, has scored 5 stars too. It managed to obtain 85 percent in Adult Occupant, 87 percent in Child Occupant, 66 percent in Pedestrian safety and 76 percent in Safety Assist. The only problems seen were marked as “Adequate” in the driver’s legs and torso, for the front offset, and in the side-pole impact, in the torso. The side lower parts of the hood were marked as “Poor” in the Pedestrian safety but the mid section was named “Good”. The “Poor” rating was given to the lower side parts of the windscreen too. The tested car was a Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI Comfortline.
