The European safety specialists tested the 2.0 diesel Audi A6 which managed to get the maximum five-star rating, with good results for the adult and child occupants, as well as the pedestrian protection.
The A6 was named one of the safest cars in its class after the Euro NCAP testing and got 41 points in child occupant protection and the maximum points for the 18 month old child and 3 year old child tests.
“The Audi pre sense system is a milestone in active safety. In situations where a collision is likely, the Audi pre sense plus system initiates partial braking. If a collision in unavoidable, the partial braking is followed by a full deceleration that reduces the intensity of the impact. Target braking assists drivers in situations where they do not apply sufficient braking force despite having received visual and acoustic warnings”, as the company explains.
The Audi A6 got some extra points for offering daytime running lights in standard and optional night vision assistant with pedestrian warning, active lane assist and all-weather light with adaptive headlight range control. According to Euro NCAP, the A6 wouldn’t meet the pedestrian requirements in 2012, when a more stringent 5 star requirement will come into effect.
