The latest round of testing form the independent Euro NCAP crash test authority has had the all new Audi A4 midsize luxury sedan awarded the maximum five-star crash test rating.
The Ingolstadt-based carmaker has received the award – which is no surprise – but also nailed the “Euro NCAP advanced” special award that was claimed thanks to standard multi-collision brake assist system and the optional Audi pre sense basic system. The first one can hit the brakes if the accident becomes imminent and the second one will close the windows and sunroof as well as tighten the belts. The new A4 also has a standard pre-collision city system that will warn and even brake the car while driving below 52.8 mph (85 km/h) if there are vehicles and/or pedestrians in the vehicle’s drive path. If an imminent collision is detected the driver will be prompted to take action via acoustic and visual warnings, followed by the automatic emergency braking system taking immediate action if the driver doesn’t react.
The testers at Euro NCAP used for the crash 2.0 TDI S Tronic model in the standard left-hand drive configuration – the score was of 90 percent in terms of adult occupant protection (34.5 points ) and 87 percent in terms of child occupant protection with a score of 43 points. Pedestrian protection was also high at 75 percent with 27.4 points and the Safety Assist category had an equal 75 percent rating with the A4 receiving almost ten points.
