Euro NCAP: Chevy Orlando, Aveo, Citroen DS5 earn five stars
The Euro NCAP testing is keeping everyone busy these days, starting with automakers and ending with car owners, who want to know “what would happen if…”, but owners of the Chevrolet Orlando, Chevrolet Aveo and Citroen DS5 have nothing to be worried about.
The Orlando five-door MPV scored 95 percent in adult occupation protection and 79 percent in child protection, as well as the protection of the 18 month old child, who got maximum points.
The Cruze-based MPV is offering six airbags and ISOFIX elements for child seats, crash sensor technology with automatically door unlock on detection of an impact, ABS, TC, EBFD (electronic brake force distribution), BA and ESP as standard.
“The Orlando provides formidable levels of safety. Safety matters a lot to us and we are delighted that these two vehicles (Orlando and Cruze) have earned the top European rating”, said the president and managing director at Chevrolet Europe, Wayne Brannon.
Things are looking well for the General Motors Brand as the new generation of the Aveo obtained 35 points (95 percent) for adult occupant protection, 43 points (87 percent) for child occupants and 19 points (54 percent) for pedestrian.
The 1.2 LT Aveo tested protected the dummies’ knees and femurs and the car scored well at the side barrier test, as well as the more severe pole test.
The DS5 from Citroen showed that the model is ready to meet tougher requirements in 2012, scoring a five-star result, with 14.7 points for the front impact, 8.0 for side impact protection and 6.6 for the poll test. Child occupant protection was also good with 83 percent.
“The bumper provided good protection to pedestrians’ legs. In the areas likely to be stuck by the head of a child, the bonnet offered mixed protection with good marginal and poor areas. In those areas likely to be struck by an adult’s head, the protection was poor for the entire region and was awarded no points”, as the Euro NCAP says.
The Citroen DS5 gained some extra points by offering standard ESP, speed limitation and seatbelt reminder system for the driver, passenger and rear seats.
