The German based automaker Volkswagen is once again in the center of attention with two of its newest models, the Up! city car and the 2012 Beetle, where both of them have been awarded with a five-star rating at the recent Euro NCAP tests.
According to the safety specialists at Euro NCAP, despite its small size, the Volkswagen Up! managed to score a five star rating for occupant protection, offering 80 percent child protection which will make it ideal for all the moms out there who are looking to drive something else than a large SUV. Maximum points were also scored for protecting the passenger dummy on the knees and femurs. The side impact pole test showed some rib compression which indicates marginal protection on the driver’s chest but the seat and head restraint provided good protection in the event of a rear-end collision.
The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle also managed to score a five-star rating at the Euro NCAP testing facility, with 92 percent protection for adult occupants, 90 percent protection for child occupants and 53 percent protection for pedestrians, as well as 86 percent safety assist. The new Beetle also received the maximum number of points for the side impact and side pole test, showing that body areas received good protection.
