The US all-wheel drive specialist has officially detailed the new small SUV Renegade in its Euro-spec trim, while also posting an impressive new gallery of the model.
The entry-level SUV in the Jeep line-up and also the smallest offering to date coming from the US company, the Renegade is also the first Jeep to be manufactured in Italy, with worldwide availability in more than 100 markets.
The Renegade, which is based – just like its soon to be revealed Fiat 500X brother – has been built on the platform used by Fiat to underpin the larger 500L, but the Jeep model will also feature a world’s first: a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The model will become available in dealer showrooms starting with the fourth quarter this year, featuring at launch an Opening Edition trim. The other versions available are the Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk.
Engine choices come from the Fiat bank: two MultiAir2 petrol mills that develop 140 or 170 hp and the entry-level E.torQ petrol unit that has 120 hp. We also have two diesel choices, MultiJet II units churning out 120 hp and 170 hp. In Russia the 185 hp 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir unit will also be offered. The Renegade comes with two manual gearboxes, a dual-dry clutch (DDCT) semi-auto and the afore-mentioned 9-speed auto. 4×2 traction will be available for the low-end versions, while Jeep, as always, offers two 4×4 systems – the Jeep Active Drive and the Jeep Active Drive Low.
