Something new, something British and something German, that’s how the new Evoque that will “run” on the next Dakar Rally might be considered, being powered by the BMW 3.0 liter diesel.
Three cars commissioned by RaBe Race cars will go to the 2012 Dakar Rally for the British Excite Rally Raid Team and the most interesting thing about them will be the engine, Bavarian made.
“We’ve been working on this project for a long time. We were approached by a manufacturer, RaBe Race Cars, whose staff has been around the sport for a long time. Seeing our professional approach, they asked if we could work together. We have goals we can assist each other with so we have now set our sights a bit higher”, said the British Excite Rally Raid Team’s manager, David Jones.
Besides that pretty face found on the new Evoque, the Dakar SUV will be powered by a 3.0 liter six-cylinder turbodiesel engine provided by BMW, which is delivering 275 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque or 479 lb-ft, mated to a six-speed ZF transmission with a two-speed transfer case.
After the Land Rover Defender has made history at the Dakar Rally, everyone will be watching the Evoque to see what the newest model in the British automaker’s lineup can do. But honestly, we are waiting for a new Bowler based on the Evoque.
