An insider within Opel has recently confirmed to inautonews.com that a hot version of the new Astra generation will be debuting at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, this September.
It does seem that recent reports which were announcing both an Astra K GSi and an Astra K OPC are going to materialize soon because the first one seems to be just around the corner. According to a source within Opel, the carmaker will be introducing a 200 HP version of the new compact car at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, which will be opening its gates in September.
“We will have a 1.6 turbo 200 hp in Frankfurt which will for the beginning top of the range. Plans for Geneva go in another direction than OPC. We have a lot of time to deploy the new Astra family”, said the Opel insider.
The initial report was indicating that the new Opel Astra GSi will be getting the 2.0l four-cylinder engine from the Insignia, capable of producing around 250 HP, so the 200 HP variant announced for the German automotive event is taking us by surprise. However, Opel might be offering what we can call a “budget hot hatch” in the shape of the Astra GSi which will undercut most of its rivals in terms of pricing. The future Astra OPC will be true range-topping version of the model and this will be capable of competing with models such as the Ford Focus RS or the Volkswagen Golf R.
