Opel executives still haven’t decided on the introduction of a GTC or a Sedan version of the new Astra K.
The new generation of the Opel Astra will be offered for sure in a 5-door hatchback and a Sport Tourer but when it comes to the other two body styles, the GTC 3-door and the 4-door sedan, things are quite uncertain as the carmaker is stating that only one of them will hit the assembly line and at this time it’s not sure which one.
“The new Astra K is based on a brand new architecture – meaning: everything is new, and this is a “slim fit”, lightweight architecture that has been put together to accommodate a 5 door hatchback and a Sport Tourer wagon for a start. There could be one additional body style but it is not sure yet”, said a source within the company when contacted by inautonews.com.
Chances are the new Opel Astra K will be introduced in the GTC version, besides the 5-door hatchback and the estate, mostly because a new sedan might be added to the company’s range in the shape of a rebadged Chevrolet Cruze, in the new generation. This, however, remains to be confirmed. Rumor has it that the 5-door estate version, along with the GTC, will be unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, which will be opening its gates this September.
