Frank Deiss, president of Beijing Benz Automotive, announced during the ongoing China Congress of the Automotive Production that probably as early as 2015 Mercedes could start local production for its GLA compact SUV in China.
The manager also announced that the German Company intends to complete the construction phase II of its plant in Beijing by the end of 2014. With the opening of the new engine plant in Beijing a few days away and the entry of Daimler in BAIC provides Mercedes with important milestones in China.
In its plant in Beijing, Mercedes-Benz currently produces the GLK, C-Class and E-Class, with an annual production capacity of 100,000 units. Deiss said the same production magnitude would be achieved through the construction of the second plant, which will start production in 2015 with the GLA.
In addition, Mercedes has just started production in a new engine plant with a capacity of 250,000 units. Engines made there are not only produced for the local market as Deiss confirmed that in the coming year, the export of engine components such as cylinder heads, cylinder blocks and crankshafts from China will start to Germany.
