With a spectacular fight for win between Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, this Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix also had a jaw-dropping crash that saw Esteban Gutierrez from Sauber barrel rolled by a clumsy Pastor Maldonado.
For all those complaining Formula 1 has become a drag these days, three-time world champion Niki Lauda has a message, also saying the recently concluded race was one of the greatest grand prix he’d ever saw.
“If anybody complains that F1 is boring then they are an idiot,” Lauda added.
The race was an inter-team war battle: Valterri Bottas and Felipe Massa from Williams fought, Force India drivers’ Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg had a sublime battle and
we saw the day when Red Bull’s boss told four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel to step aside and let team-mate Daniel Ricciardo pass. He was on a field battle that saw him advance from 13th to fourth place.
Most unbelievably, Lotus driver Pastor Maldonado stupidly t-boned Sauber’s Gutierrez, which sent the monopost airborne – fortunately he emerged almost unscathed. Maldonado was “awarded” a ten second stop-and-go penalty during the race, a five-place grid penalty at the Chinese Grand Prix and three penalty points on his license (nine more and he’ll be banned from a race).
