Vin Diesel’s action film ‘Fast Five’ was the most pirated movie on the Internet in the past year according to TorrentFreak.com.
The fifth, and most successful, installment in Universal Pictures’ high-octane “Fast and Furious” action series was downloaded 9,260,000 times in 2011!
However, despite the staggering number of times Fast Five was illegally shared, there is a silver lining: it was swapped nearly 7 million times less than the 2010 piracy leader, Avatar, which was illegally downloaded over 16 million times.
Following close behind were ‘The Hangover Part II’ and ‘Thor,’ the former of which was also appropriately on this list.
Other films featured in TorrentFreak’s top 10 countdown include James Franco’s 127 Hours at seven with 6.9 million hits, and this year’s Best Picture Oscar winner The King’s Speech, which landed in ninth place with 6.3 million downloads.
The year’s most popular movie at the box office, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” barely sneaked onto the most pirated movie list at No. 10, having been illegally downloaded 6 million times.
