The Spanish Formula One racing driver and two times World Champion currently racing for McLaren-Honda has just showed us the latest ride in his garage – a flaming red Honda Civic Type R.
The news came courtesy of his Instagram account, so there aren’t many details to confide – apart from the fact that its vivid red color kind of reminds us of a memorable run at a former Formula One team. No matter, Alonso looked happy taking delivery of his new Type R, a Honda model highly anticipated among hot hatch petrolheads in Europe and around the world. Naturally, after coming back to McLaren Honda for the current F1 season, he also serves as the 34-year-old double World Champion ambassador for McLaren, Honda and Acura. The present coming from his team’s engine provider is most likely a replacement gift as the man has already showcased his desire to get his body inside the second generation Acura NSX. But he’ll need to wait a little longer because the automaker pushed back the delivery date to the first quarter of 2016. The delay has been billed to stem from the brand’s decision to jump from the prototype’s naturally aspirated V6 engine to a twin-turbo V6, which caused further setbacks down the line for the engineers and the regulatory process.
Just as a reminder, the Civic Type R Alonso got is also no slouch, using under its hood a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that churns out 310 PS and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. That’s enough to jump to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.7 seconds and then sprint all the way to the maximum speed of 270 km/h (167 mph).
