After presenting to the public a wide variety of vehicles based on the 599, like the original GTB Fiorano, the HGTE with improved handling dynamics, the China Edition, the HY-KERS concept, the 599XX track car, the GTO, the P540 Superfast and the SA Aperta, Ferrari is planning to start working on a very special edition of the supercar which will be a tribute to its Formula 1 driver, Fernando Alonso.

According to the, the Maranello based automaker is getting ready to pay tribute to its star Formula One driver with the 599 Fernando Alonso Edition which is expected to make its way to the auto market in January, 2012, where production of the supercar will be limited to an exclusive 40 units, even if nothing is official yet.

The Ferrari 599 GTB, originally introduced at the Geneva Motor Show back in February 2006, was styled by Pininfarina under the direction of Frank Stephenson, and its name has been “inspired” from its engine displacement, 5999 cc. The 599 takes its power from a 6.0 liter V12 engine which is developing 612 HP at 7.600 rpm and has a peak torque of 608 Nm (448 lb-ft) at 5.600 rpm, which can be mated to either a Ferrari six-speed (F1 SuperFast) or a six-speed manual transmission.
