For the Italian brand this is the second year in a row taking the generic title, while the Blue Oval’s smallish mill takes the honor for the sixth consecutive year in its specific category.
The Ferrari 3.9-liter V8 is being used inside the 488 GTB, California T, and GTC4Lusso and also took home the Performance Engine class and the three- to four-liter displacement category wins next to the Engine of the Year Award. Ferrari is actually the top scorer since the awards were set up back in 1999 – next to its new, turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 the Prancing Horse also got the 6.3-liter V12 as a winner in the four-liter and above award for the second straight year, making owners of the F12berlinetta and F12tdf feel proud.
“This is only the second time in the history of the IEOTYA that such a powerful performance engine has taken the overall honors two years consecutively and won the most coveted, outright IEOTYA title,” commented Tony Robinson, founder of the International Engine of the Year Awards. As for the Ford powerplant, the compact three cylinder that was first introduced back in 2012 has won the under one liter category, coming in 100, 125 and 140 hp power levels. It’s also a top selling mill – one in five Ford vehicles sold in Europe is using it.
