The Italian based automaker Ferrari has recently won not one, but two, International Engine of the Year awards, for the 6.2 liter V12 and the 4.5 liter V8.
According to the car manufacturer, the 4.5 liter V8 engine, for which Ferrari has won the International Engine of the Year, is used on the 458 Italia, while the other winner, the 6.2 liter V12, is used on the new Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, the replacement of the 599 GTB.
“Winning both these categories for the third year running is a fantastic result for everyone at Ferrari. It is testimony to the efforts of a relatively small group of engineers who constantly strive to achieve ambitious technical objectives. Three figures suffice to demonstrate the results of development: 120 HP more and 30 percent lower emissions than the previous V12 that equipped the 599 GTB Fiorano, along with a 30 percent increase in longitudinal acceleration”, said Jean Jacques, the Ferrari powertrain department leader.
The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, equipped with a 6.2 liter V12 engine, is producing a total output of 730 HP and it has 509 lb-ft of torque. The F12 Berlinetta can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds. The Ferrari 458 Italia’s 4.5 liter engine is good for 562 HP at 9,000 rpm and 540 Nm of torque available at 6,000 rpm.
