The Italian based automaker Fiat is considering an automatic transmission for the 500 Abarth performance model for the American consumers.
According to the guys at Wards Auto, the Fiat 500 Abarth will be soon offered with an automatic transmission in the North American market. The announcement has been made by the company’s American president, Tim Kuniskis, who was citing customer feedback. The Fiat official said that the plan is to offer an automatic transmission for the 500 Abarth “at some point”. Kuniskis feels different than other executives who believe that the manual is enough, but as people have requested an automatic, the company will not oppose to doint it.
Most requests of an automatic transmission from over-seas are coming from male drivers, because even if the 500 has been designed to appeal to women, more than 80 percent of the cars sold in North America are bought my males. As a quick reminder, the 500 Abarth is the performance model of the Fiat 500. The model is powered by a 1.4 liter engine with a turbocharger, which is good for 133 HP (99 kW) at 5,500 rpm, and it has a peak torque of 180 Nm (130 lb-ft), available at 3,000 rpm.
