Only four and a half years since its launch, Fiat 500 city hit an amazing success in the UK, with the 100,000th unit recently sold here.
This shows that the Fiat 500 is still preferred by customers who look for a super-mini. In April the model was placed on top 10 best sellers, with 2,600 units sold. Fissures show that 80% of all the Fiat 500 sold, were 1.2-litre petrol engine versions, 8% were the 0.9-litre two cylinder TwinAir version, introduced in 2010 and 48% were in the top-of-the-range Lounge trim. The most chosen colors were Pasodoble red, Bossanova white, the metallic Crossover black and Volare light blue.
“We were always confident that the 100,000 landmark would come,” says Elena Bernardelli, marketing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK Ltd. “It’s a wonderful achievement and I am sure that we will see many more sales successes in the years to come.”
In 2008 the Fiat 500 was named the International Car of the Year and won many other awards, among which Auto Express Best City Car (2008), Auto 1 Awards Small and Compact Vehicle (2008), What Car? Green Awards Supermini (2010), Fleet World Honours Best City Car (2011) and BusinessCar Awards City Car of the Year (2011).
