The Italian based automaker Fiat has recently confirmed rumors on producing a small crossover, named the 500X.

Rumors on Fiat developing the 500X have been around ever since this summer but the carmaker has recently stepped forward and announced its plans to put the model into production. According to the car manufacturer, besides the Fiat 500X, the company will also produce an entry-level Jeep model. The two vehicles will ride on the same Small Wide platform and they will be available with all-wheel drive system. The Fiat 500X will be produced in Melfi, Italy, after Fiat has invested over 1 billion euros into the facility.

Additional details on the Fiat 500X are limited for the moment but rumors are saying that the model will be over 4 meters long and it will be able to transport five adult passengers. The model is expected to get a 1.4 liter TwinAir gasoline engine under its hood, which should produce a total output of 93 HP. AWD or FWD will be offered for the 500X, along with an entry-level unit, the two-cylinder with 104 HP. Multijet diesels are also in the books. The Fiat 500X might be officially unveiled in Geneva next year, but the car manufacturer didn’t announce anything official for the moment.
