The Italian brand is gearing up to introduce the estate version of the Tipo entry-level sedan, which is why we’re seeing a digital teaser of the model just hours prior to the start of the Geneva Motor Show.
This is rather a surprise – we were expecting the five-door hatchback version to come out before the SW variant – but we’re not going to argue with Fiat on this one. Most likely the model will feature its worldwide premiere during the Swiss event and the official teaser is only a confirmation of what has been seen so far when checking the spy shots of the pre-production prototypes while out testing. And while it’s labeled as a budget offering, the Tipo SW doesn’t look ready to give up the typical Italian attractiveness. We can see the boomerang shape of the taillights has been changed from the ones deployed on the sedan and there are big chances this design will also be featured on the hatchback. Of course, since this is a digital rendering, we’re expecting the model to looks slightly less impressive in the metal due to the artistic licenses of the former.
The technical specifications are still unknown but we’re betting they will be the same as the sedan: two naturally-aspirated 1.4- and 1.6-liter gasoline units and more fuel friendly turbodiesel 1.3- and 1.6-liter MultiJet II duet. The engine choice will influence transmissions – the range includes five and six-speed manuals and a six-speed automatic. We’re also expecting the Tipo estate to trump the luggage capacity of the sedan – which is already spectacular at 18.3 cu. ft. (520 liters).
