Ford’s 1.0 liter EcoBoost to develop 180 HP image

Ford Motor Company is getting ready to launch the 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine, which will develop a total output of 180 horsepower.

In a recent interview with the guys at the Focus director, Gunnar Herrmann, said that the company’s upcoming three-cylinder 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine will produce a total output of 180 horsepower, thanks to incorporating twin sequential turbocharging which will take the current 125 horsepower unit to 180 horsepower. By launching the new 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine with its 180 HP, Ford will get close to the record of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution FQ-400, which is offering a power/displacement figure of 205 HP.

The new 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine will make its debut on the new Ford Focus generation and it will come as a precussor version of the Focus ST. The company’s official, Gunnar Herrmann also said that the 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine will entirely replace the current 1.6 liter four-cylinder aspirated units by 2015 in most regions of the world. The current 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine is being offered on the Ford Focus in two versions, with 99 HP and with 125 HP. The unit is the most efficient powerplant ever developed by Ford, burning an average of 5.0 liters every 100 km and emitting just 109 g of CO2 per km in the 99 HP version.
