Ford announced the beginning of third-generation Focus production in Thailand.
The third-generation Focus will be launched in the UK in August and in Malaysia the model will be available in both sedan and five-door hatch options by the end of this year. The model is manufactured at the new, US$450 million state-of-the-art Ford Thailand Manufacturing plant in Rayong, which is able of manufacturing six different models at the same time. The C346 is the first model off the line and it will be followed by the EcoSport compact SUV.
This is the 5th facility that produces the Focus, and the Thai-built models will reach New Zealand, Australia, South Africa as well as other ASEAN markets. Besides the art Ford Thailand Manufacturing plant, the model is also produced at other facilities in Saarlouis, Germany; Chongqing, China; St. Petersburg, Russia, and Wayne, Michigan.
The Thailand facility will manufacture both the hatch and sedan options of the car, with two normally-aspirated powertrains available: the Duratec 2.0L Ti-VCT GDi, with 170 PS and 200 Nm of torque matched to a six-speed, dual dry-clutch PowerShift transmission and the second is the Duratec 1.6 litre Ti-VCT engine, with 125 PS and 159 Nm, matched to the six-speed PowerShift transmission.
