Today, December 3rd, Ford begins volume production of its all-new Ford Kuga SUV at the Valencia plant, in Spain.
New Kuga offers state-of-the-art technology such as Ford’s new global intelligent all-wheel drive system, hands-free tailgate, enhanced Torque Vectoring Control and also Ford EcoBoost petrol engine technology, a premiere for the European SUV market. The first generation Kuga was launched in Europe in 2008 and since then the automaker sold more than 300,000 units.
The Kuga lineup in Europe will be followed by the arrival of the innovative and modern EcoSport, which is Ford’s entry into the small SUV segment, and then the Edge, a larger crossover which has seen a tremendous success in North America and other markets.
“The first-generation Kuga was a successful vehicle that customers really loved. The all-new, second-generation Kuga is a smarter, more fuel-efficient and even more fun to drive SUV,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe. “Ford has a deep heritage and expertise in SUVs that we plan to fully leverage in Europe starting with the all-new Kuga.”
Ford plans to quickly expand its SUV lineup in Europe and said that it expects to sell more than 1 million units on the continent over the next six years and the SUV sales to account for 10% of all Fords sold in the region by 2016. The New Kuga comes with either a 150 PS or 180 PS EcoBoost petrol engines, and 140 PS or 163 PS 2.0-litre TDCi Duratorq diesel engines.
