Ford has just presented its Ecosport model in India, ahead of its official debut at the New Delhi Auto Expo which was scheduled for January 5, 2012.
According to the North American based automaker, the Ford Ecosport is actually a Fiesta based SUV which will go against rivals like the Nissan Juke, or the upcoming Opel Mokka, the Corsa based SUV, and the Peugeot 2008, which is a 208 based SUV. Nissan’s domination into the B-segment is close to an end and the Ford Ecosport is actually the first model which will take on the Japanese model, and, even if the 2013 Ford Ecosport is looking just like a mini Kuga or Escape, it’s actually shorter and lower, being based, as we said above, on the Fiesta hatchback.
The 2013 Ford Ecosport will be actually the first model to get the company’s new 1.0 liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which is developing a total output of 118 horsepower and it has a peak torque of 125 lb-ft. Even if the engine doesn’t seem like some big deal, it will actually offer some important performance to the small SUV, and considering the fact that the model is light, 118 HP will be enough to make it go up a hill, as well as returning an impressive fuel consumption and reducing the CO2 emissions. Sadly there aren’t any more details on the Ford Ecosport, and the car manufacturer is probably keeping the other things “hidden” from us until the model will make its debut at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo.
