After announcing not long ago that the 2012 Focus ST, previewed in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, will hit this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, the American based automaker Ford said that a concept of its Fiesta ST will be “attending” the same event.
According to Ford, the Fiesta ST is not important in the United States because no one actually knows if people would buy it, but the small hatchback will be soon introduced in Europe, with its new 1.6 liter EcoBoost engine, where it is expected to cost more than the previous generation.
“The Fiesta has a rich history of high-performance models so a new ST performance model is a logical next step in our performance vehicle strategy for our global small cars. With a racing silhouette inspired by Fiesta race and rally cars currently competing on the world stage, and influenced by the unique appearance of the all-new Focus ST, the new Fiesta ST Concept is an exciting demonstration of the road-going Fiesta’s potential”, said the Ford vice president for Global Product Development, Derrick Kuzak.
The refreshed Ford Fiesta ST is expected to pack a new grille which will follow the lines of its bigger brother, the Focus, along with bigger headlights and some interior modifications. The automaker didn’t announce anything official yet about whether the Fiesta ST will end up in the over-seas Ford showrooms after the Los Angeles Auto Show, but this might be considered an “experiment”.
