The Blue Oval company is keeping ahead of the current – it has introduced equipment for older cars to enjoy Wi-Fi connections – and now allows owners of the all-new Expedition to enjoy live TV on a mobile device or the integrated entertainment system.
The 2018 Expedition packs a dual-headrest rear seat entertainment system that gives passengers the option to watch live television through their Slingbox account, the first time the TV platform makes the jump into a car. The system consists of two eight-inch monitors, integrated into the headrests of the front seats, so rear passengers can watch TV or movies and video, streamed from a home cable or satellite system through their Slingbox account. The new EVO, developed by VOXXHirschmann, has a list of possible sources of video content (streaming, DVD player, HDMI, USB, and SD card), as well as in-vehicle wireless network hub for up to ten devices with a range of about 50 feet (15 meters).
The monitors can be controlled via touch buttons at the lower part of each screen, two remote control devices, or the ubiquitous mobile application, available for both iOS and Android. Interestingly, the system also allows for video playing on up to three mobile devices at once. Ford also announced that its new EcoSport gains a technology that allows “more on-demand choices while freeing up interior space to hold mobile devices or other personal items.
