The American make’s novelties for their European “home” show – the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show – actually include so much more, including Ranger Black Edition, Ford GT ’67 Heritage, new Fiesta range and Ford Performance lineup.
Naturally, the one catching our attention most – though in terms of sales the Fiesta and EcoSport will take the lead – is the facelifted European version of the Mustang pony car. The upgrade includes design tweaks, engine and suspension upgrades along with new and advanced driver assistance features. The Old Continent will continue to receive the Mustang in GT form – packing the enhanced 5.0-litre V8 engine, now reaching an anticipated 450 PS. The company has also decided to offer both the V8 and the 290 PS 2.3-litre EcoBoost with Ford’s new 10-speed automatic transmission, complete with real-time adaptive shift-scheduling for better efficiency or performance.
The Mustang also features a new optional MagneRide Damping System, two new selectable Drive Modes – Drag Strip Mode and customizable My Mode, along with the Good Neighbor Mode, which limits noise when the Mustang is equipped with the Active Valve Performance Exhaust. In terms of performance, Ford estimates the Drag Strip mode will help the Mustang 5.0-litre V8 sprint to 60 mph (96 kph) in less than four seconds.
We should also be interested in the newly updated EcoSport, ready to battle the highly contested subcompact crossover segment – it will be one of the few to still feature AWD, and comes with a deeply upgraded interior, the new ST Line trim and a new 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, good for 125 PS. The new Tourneo Custom people carrier is also there to entice customers with the association it has with the iconic Transit – but in this derivation it can seat up to nine passengers.
