The North American based automaker Ford has recently announced its plans to retire from the World Rally Championship after the 2012 season.
After MINI has announced just a few days ago that it will bow out of the World Rally Championship, time has come for Ford to do the same thing. The reason of why the carmaker has chosen to retire from WRC at the end of this season is the same difficult economic environment.
“Ford has a long and proud history in the WRC, and this was not an easy decision. At this time, however we determined that it was better for the company and the Ford brand to reduce our commitment to the WRC and deploy our resources in other areas”, said the vice president of Sales and Marketing of Ford Europe, Roelant de Waard.
Just like MINI, Ford will continue to produce the Fiesta WRC for independent drivers. Besides this, the M-Sport will provide the engineering support too, but the involvement in the competition will start here. Ford will retire at the end of the 2012 season from the World Rally Championship.
