While Hyundai is slowly and gradually teasing us to the models it will present during the SEMA Show, Ford decided to show up in full force with a quartet of F-150 prototypes.
We could call Ford in earnest to have the same idea as Hyundai – since it’s previewing “just” four of over 50 customized vehicles the company intends to bring to the aftermarket-oriented event. But let’s judge the four and then the rest. First off we have the Bojix Design turning the 2016 F-150 SuperCrew into a practical off-roader. There’s a seven-inch (177.8-millimeter) lift and Fox Racing coilovers, 22-inch wheels with 37-inch off-road tires as well as upgraded Borg Warner EFR turbos for the 3.5-liter biturbo EcoBoost V6.
Meanwhile, those that have nothing to do with the wilderness can go for the 2016 F-150 4×4 Lariat SuperCrew that has something to do with BMX bikes. They can also go into mild off-roading situations, if the bikers feel like going off the beaten path thanks to the performance suspension with dirt logic. Getting there fast is no problem thanks to the Whipple supercharger for the 5.0-liter V8 – and there’s room for the bikes as well as the necessary safety gear in the bed.
Hulst Customs’ 2016 Ford F-150 SuperCrew, named EraThr3 will have nothing to do with any sort of off-roading, because it’s all about performance. The 5.0-liter has a Whipple supercharger and performance exhaust that lifts power to 750 horsepower (559.3 kW). There’s also an air suspension and custom four-link rear suspension, complete with 26-inch wheels and a leather interior.
We also have A.R.E. Accessories’ 2016 F-150 4×4 XLT SuperCab that has been transformed into the “Gold Standard”. The vibrating paint scheme is complimented by a lift system for the cap that presents to us a TV, storage system, and charging station in the bed. Perfect for tailgating, there are also 24-inch wheels and a lifted suspension.
