Following its historic win in its class last weekend at Le Mans, the Ford GT racer is getting ready for some R&R (rest and recuperation) at this year’s edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Ford has decided to celebrate in style its sweeping return to glory at Le Mans during the Goodwood Festival of Speed where Ford Chip Ganassi Racing drivers Dirk Müller and Marino Franchitti are taking the #66 GT for a drive. Franchitti is one of the drivers of the #68 Ford GT that claimed the victory last weekend in the GTE Pro category. This was done exactly half a century after the company took an astonishing 1-2-3 win at the 1966 Le Mans. While changing the scenery of the famous Circuit de la Sarthe for the 1.16-mile hill climb course at Goodwood might sound like a vacation, the #66 GT race car certainly didn’t want to feel alone.
So, Ford prepared a plethora of companions. Ken Block’s Fiesta STRX43 from Gymkhana 8 is also there for some shenanigans –especially since this is one of the most spectacular Fiestas in existence – with 650 hp on top. Also at Goodwood is the Mustang RTR that acts as drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr’s bespoke ride. Packing a massive 735 hp from its supercharged V8 engine it could live up to the Hoonicorn. Other Fords at the FoS include the recently unveiled Mondeo ST-Line – or the F-150 Raptor, which is manned by Ben Collins, Top Gear’s famous former Stig.
