Ford announced it has begun volume production of the new Fiesta at the Cologne plant.
Considered the latest version of Europe’s best-selling small car, the Ford Fiesta will hit dealerships soon. The improved model of the Ford Fiesta features a new dynamic design, a breakthrough powertrain line-up and new smart technologies.
“The new Fiesta has seven powertrain options – both diesel and petrol – that deliver fuel economy of less than 100 grams of CO2 per kilometre,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe.
The Ford Fiesta first went into production in 1976 and since then Ford has sold more than 15 million units all over the world. During the first three quarters the company sold more than 235,000 units in Europe, making the model the best-selling small car in the region.
Other features included in the new Fiesta are Ford MyKey, a technology which allows parents encourage safer driving for their teenagers, Active City Stop that helps drivers avoid low speed collisions, voice-activated in-car connectivity system SYNC, and SYNC Emergency Assistance, which connects the vehicle to local emergency services operators after an accident.
When the new Fiesta will arrive in dealerships, it will be offered with 1.0-litre EcoBoost, which has been named the 2012 “International Engine of the Year”.
