Among the many celebrations the US automakers has in store for the half-century anniversary of its iconic Mustang sports car, there’s one that’s definitely fashionable.
The No.2 automaker has decided to gather some global designers – among them Anna Sui; Rogan Gregory and Scott Mackinlay-Hahn of Rogan; Paula Cademartori; Tomaso Anfossi and Francesco Ferrari of CO|TE; and Pamela Love – and task them to design a limited-edition 15-shirt collection.
“Mustang embraces passion, power, adventure and freedom, and by collaborating with top designers known for their expressive personalities and designs, we are blending the parallels between the worlds of fashion and automotive like never before,” said Kim Cape, Ford group marketing manager. “The Mustang Unleashed collection celebrates the passion and freedom of Mustang, and its inspiration to pop culture over the last 50 years.”
The 5,000 shirts will only become available on designer fashion site gilt.com, with an asking price of $39.They have been produced by Loomstate in the US, so you’ll skip the Made in China feeling. If you fancy a shirt in the Mustang Unleashed collection, you should also consider buying one of the 1,964 commemorative models, which wraps on the GT fastback. The Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition has just two colors: Wimbledon White, mirroring the first ever Mustang, and Kona Blue.
