Ford’s F-150 is a truck load of patents image

The 2015 F-150 pick-up truck aims to keep its winning streak at the top of the US sales charts, with Ford leaving nothing to chance. While the use of aluminum is a well-known news of the model, the engineers have a lot more installed.

According to Ford, their 2015 F-150 is the most technology patented pick-up truck they ever had, with north of 100 patents already approved or pending. With the aluminum body on its best-selling US product, Ford’s F-150 should weigh around 700 (+300 kg) pounds less than the outgoing model – a great asset in its strive to meet future government fuel economy norms.

“Ford is teaching the world how to build a next-generation truck, and the more than 100 new patents for technologies on the 2015 truck are proof points of the leadership,” says Alana Strager, an analyst that tracks Ford’s innovations. “The all-new F-150 is loaded with innovation.”

While Ford, for example, has gathered over the years for its hybrid technology around 500 patents, the more than 100 patents for the truck is quietly impressive, with technologies ranging from the treatment of the military grade aluminum body to the electrically and remote-controlled tailgate release system or the LED side-mirror spotlights and even the 360 degree panorama camera view.
