Although summer is almost over, the IAA is still a good place to present cabrio versions, which is exactly what Audi did with its A3 model, now officially revealed in its open top form.
The new model is bigger then the old one, as the overall length has been increased from 4.24m to 4.42m, along with the width from 1.77m to 1.79m. The wheelbase has been stretched from 2.58m to 2.60m, while the height was reduced by 15mm to 1.41m. This means slightly more room for those in the back (but don’t expect miracles) along with an extra 60 liters in the cargo area.
Clients have an option between two soft-tops: the standard one can be opened or closed in less than 18 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km/h), while the “acoustic top” which has a thicker inner foam layer meant to reduce interior noise.
Sales begin this autumn in Germany, and first deliveries will be in the first quarter of 2014. The base price for the 1.4 TFSI (103 kW with cylinder on demand technology) is 31,700 euros. The aforementioned base engine has 140 hp (103 kW) and power increases to a 1.8 TFSI outputting 180 hp (132 kW) and a 2.0 TDI rated at 150 hp (110 kW). Later on we will se the powerful S3 Cabriolet with a 2.0 TFSI good for 300 hp but also a very economic 110 hp (81 kW) 1.6 TDI.
