The North American based automaker Ford has brought the Mondeo Hybrid to the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, where the model was rather ignored compared to other vehicles made by the same company.
The Ford Mondeo Hybrid, also known as the Fusion Hybrid over-seas, where its starting price has been set at just under 30,000 USD, is said to return 47 / 47 / 47 mpg US, in city / highway / combined, which is a significant improvement compared to the 41 / 36 in city highway of the old generation. The model is coming with a lithium-ion battery pack, replacing the nickel-metal ones from the previous version, and the powertrain has been also upgraded.
Ford says that instead of the old 2.5 liter four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine, which was good for 156 HP, backed up by the 106 HP electric motor, the new Mondeo Hybrid has received a 141 HP Atkinson cycle four-cylinder 2.0 liter unit and a 118 HP electric motor. The CVT (continuously variable transmission) is sending the power to the wheels. The 0 to 60 mph sprint takes 9.1 seconds and top speed stands at 105 mph.
