The new generation of the Volkswagen Golf R has been officially presented to the public during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, in a world premiere.
The brand new Volkswagen Golf R is the hottest version of the new generation and it’s coming with a new body kit, which is helping it stand out from a crowd. Highlights include the rear diffuser, the side skirts, the smoked LED taillights or the quad exhaust system. The interior design of the model hasn’t been left aside either and this has gained new sports seats wrapped in Alcantara and a choice of 5-, 5.8- or 8-inch displays for the multimedia system.
The most important part of the model is found under its hood, where the 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine is resting. This is the same unit from the new Golf GTI, but instead of the 230 HP and 350 Nm of torque, the total output now stands at an impressive 300 HP and 380 Nm of torque. The figures have been achieved thanks to the new exhaust valves, valve seats, new cylinder heads, new turbocharger, pistons and high pressure injector valves.
The unit is mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed DSG automatic transmission, which is sending power to the all-wheel drive (4MOTION). The 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes 5.1 seconds with the manual and 4.9 seconds with the automatic. Top speed has been electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). No pricing details have been announced yet.
