After being announced and scheduled for unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the new ForTwo EV has been presented to the public by Smart under the same roof as the ForVision Concept or even its bigger “cousin”, the hydrogen-powered Mercedes F125.
Arrived at its third generation, the little ForTwo EV is equipped with an electric motor which is able to deliver 74 horsepower or 55 kW, pushing it to 100 km/h from standstill in around 13 seconds, with a top speed of 120 km/h.
Coming from Deutsche ACCUmotive, its battery will be responsible for its autonomy which is just over 140 kilometers, while its charging time takes 8 hours maximum, if the battery is completely empty, or just half an hour if a fast charging station is being used.
In a surprise move and with its competition trying to present the latest technology and new models, Smart announced the price for its little “green” ForTwo, which will actually make it one of the most affordable electric cars on the road, at 16.000 British pounds. And if you add the generous discounts offered by some countries and cities for electric vehicles than you will almost buy it for free.
While the little ForTwo EV is priced at €16.000, its “competition” is much more expensive and in some cases the price is more than double, like the Nissan Leaf, which will get €35.000 out of your pocket, while the Renault Fluence Z.E. will be around €27.000 when it will be launched later this year.
