Local tuning company Truck Garage has decided to be proud of the country’s heritage and thus embarked on a quest to make a surprisingly desirable classic GAZ 69 off-roader.
This is the first time we hear about the Truck Garage works – probably because of all that road rage footage we can’t get enough of every day on YouTube – but we’re ready to become fans if they mean business. This is what the Gaz 69 project sounds like, as the St. Petersburg-based studio has decided to make 12 units of the “mountain goat” look like this and also deliver under the hood a beastly V8 power upgrade. For now they only finished work on the first unit, which employs a massive 6.4-liter V8 Hemi engine under the hood and churns out 465 hp (342 kW). The power is delivered to all four wheels thanks to an automatic transmission and the technical modifications also include the addition of an ARB rear differential, Teraflex disc brakes for all wheels, adjustable coilovers and a set of great looking 17-inch alloy wheels clad in 35-inch off-road tires.
The interior has pretty much kept its classic looks, though the tuner decided that a touch of XXI century life is also needed: we have a retro-looking audio system that actually features a Bluetooth interface and iPhone connectivity as well as leather-wrapped electric-adjustable seats. The technical update will remain the same for the rest of the units, but Truck Garage will also option more mundane 5.7- or 6.1-liter engines – while customers will also get to choose if they want a classic hardtop cabin or ones featuring a retractable soft top, with prices starting at about $57,770.
