The Fuso Canter Euro 5 EEV lightweight truck has won the „Irish Truck of the Year 2012” award at the “Fleet Transport Award 2012” event held in Dublin in October. Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation ( MFTBC), one of Asia’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, accepted the award from „Fleet Transport”, a leading Irish transport magazine.
The jury was composed of commercial vehicle specialists, including automotive journalists, engineers and driving instructors. The assessment process was similar to the “International Truck of the Year” prize, with a maximum of seven points awarded for 12 different criteria. Members of the jury focused on fuel efficiency, power-to-weight ratio, driver comfort, handling and cabin layout.
Produced since 1963, the Fuso Canter is now on the market in its eighth generation. The lightweight truck benefits from equipment such as the dual-clutch transmission, with MFTBC being the first manufacturer to use this technology in a truck. The jury also appreciated the longer service intervals, the higher load capacity and the revised chassis, which has been enhanced with individual wheel suspension at the front and the electronic stability program (ESP) as optional equipment (in the 6S and 7C models). The new Canter is produced for Europe since September at the plant in Tramagal, Portugal.
