Volkswagen is planning to present the upcoming Golf R later on this year, during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, and the model is expected to hit the market in early 2014.
After we have met the Volkswagen Golf VI R Cabrio just a few days ago, the German based automaker isn’t letting us forget the fact that the new generation of the popular hatchback is also promising its very own R variant. Rumors are saying that the new VW Golf R will be the most powerful version of the model ever offered, and we might see this new hot hatch later on this year, in Frankfurt.
The new VW Golf R is expected to get a 2.0 liter TSI engine under its hood, which will produce a total output of 286 BHP (213 kW) and 379 Nm of torque (280 lb-ft), being send to the road through the new Haldex all-wheel drive system with the help of a dual clutch transmission. The new VW Golf R will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 5.0 seconds before reaching a limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). More details on the model are limited for the moment and will be announced close to its debut.
