Genesis G90 – the Hyundai Equus successor – smiles for the camera [gallery] image

Hyundai’s newly launched flagship brand – Genesis – is getting ready to send to dealerships the first product – the G90. And because keeping secrets is a bad thing, we have an early off the record hush hush debut of the model.

Pictured here is a pre-production model that has been caught by the praying eyes of spy photographers completely undisguised. Kudos to them since we now have all there is to know about the exterior design of the all new range-topping sedan. The model’s truly official introduction has been tipped for December 9, but these great pictures (albeit in low res – deh, transfer speeds from South Korea) show us the premium design and the “EQ900” – as always the South Korean-spec model will be badged differently from the international version. The global customers will get it in G90 form and ready to replace the ageing Hyundai Equus. We already received the official preview from Hyundai – sorry Genesis – in the form of some teasers but we can clearly see in the pictures the design cues of the full size sedan – which is going to be pitted against some highly competitive rivals.

Going up in premium qualities will mean the Equus will also be superseded by the G90 in terms of pricing, and under the hood we should find a 3.8-liter V6 GDI with 334 PS (246 kW), a new 3.3-liter V6 twin-turbo with 370 PS (272 kW) and a top dog 5.0-liter V8 churning out 425 PS (313 kW) – all engines mated to an eight-speed automatic and 2WD or optional all-wheel drive systems.
